TCF Studying in France
The TCF TP can be taken on a computer or on paper. The TCF TP is a language proficiency test developed by the CIEP (Centre International d'Etudes Pédagogiques) and is taken by candidates who wish to undertake a study program at a French university. ILE International organises weekly sessions for interested candidates.
The test has several parts:
Mandatory components include a linear questionnaire consisting of 76 questions with a multiple choice format and completion time is 1 hour and 25 minutes. Questions are presented in this order:
Listening | Language Structure | Reading |
Optional speaking tests include an interview with an authorized TCF examiner. The writing test is a written task. Both tests assess the ability of people to express themselves and interact with others in French.
The question type is based on the principle of increasing difficulty and questions are always presented in the following order:
Speaking | Writing |
Test reports are sent to the organizing test center approximately 4 weeks after the test session, but a preliminary PDF report can be requested before. This normally takes a shorter time. This format is for information purposes only.
ILE International proposes TCF computer examination sessions. The advantages of this option include the short notice required to schedule sessions and the transmission of results to CIEP on the same day, which speeds up the process of getting the final results. The computer test observes the same test-taking conditions as the paper-based test, and has the same ministerial validity with CIEP.
